break-fast

I had ice cream for breakfast. (small bowl)

It's amazing how hard it is to keep up a blog when work gets super busy.

memoirs

NOTE: There will be more posting soon concerning Thomas Bickle and what my youth group/church are putting together to raise money, so don't think we've forgotten him.

This post is posted for Adam Hair, a young chap who I didn't even know read this blog. Here's your reading material.

So this weekend I had some good times. Radiant had a show at Hailey's on Friday, and while Denton isn't usually their forte as far as bringing in crowds, it was a really good show! I saw a friend from high school, and a couple more recent acquisitions, and I even ran into this guy Aaron Hale, who I, thanks to Mr. Benom Plumb, recorded violin for in Irons Hall until the wee wee wee hours of the morning. It was great and the crowd seemed really into Radiant, so overall a good night ensued. (Minus the fact that K-stone had to work)

THEN, on Saturday evening, I went to a scrapbooking party for my friend Donna Codd's birthday EXTRAVAGANZA!!! (EXTRAVAGANZA should always be capitalized, don't you think?)

*Now let me preface this by adding a side bar to Mrs. Rian Moody. I love you, and I had a great time on Saturday, but we both know that scrapbooking has never been one of the core desires of my being, so I hope you'll remember that as you read this posting. *WINK*

I'm not a huge fan of scrapbooking, mostly I think because I'm not really into flowers and frills and other such girly-esque things. Even looking back at my childhood, my crafty things that I would make in Sunday School and grade school (whatever grades still have you gluing blue construction paper to yellow construction paper) were a bit lacking in enthusiasm. Most people might say then, "Why even go, Becki?" Even Rian was surprised I was going, as she knows the aforementioned "core desires" of which I spake. But I say, someone else's birthday party isn't about me. It isn't about doing what I most love doing because it's not my freaking birthday. So I went. And I did have fun.

I, given the previously stated lack of a past filled to the brim with "scrapping" (as I heard it referred to by this woman with a nose ring who was....."scrapping" there at our table), I subsequently haven't acquired the basic necessities of this crafty hobby, which include but are not limited to: paper (every kind of paper you could EVER imagine), stamps, brads, scissors that cut funny, hammers, ribbon, glue sticks, glue dots, and I can't even remember what else. To make up for this, I went to Michael's™, which was conveniently located right next door, and just got some blank cards and envelopes to decorate.

I was actually a little nervous about this, because I didn't even know where I was going to begin. There were all sorts of shapes that I could cut paper into, including labels, flowers, animals, tags, states (actually, I think they only had Texas, now that I think about it.), and more. I decided that I would stay true to my love of modern design and only go with squares and rectangles. Clean lines, baby.

Plus, I'm not super artistic when it comes to visual aesthetics, so I don't really enjoy expending an unusual effort on something that I don't feel particularly confident about. Anyhoo, I think my cards (the two I made) Turned out fairly well. I made one for Miss Erin Joy Sullivan, since I think she's the friend of mine who'd most appreciate crafty items, and I made one for Kevin, because....well, you know.

Rian commended my modern attempt, so who knows, maybe I can put my own spin on this whole scrapbooking idea. I'll try to take pictures of these cards (if I can re-confiscate them) and post them in this, but for now, I'll just include this pictoral representation of some of my night.

A mere taste:

so.....about that "helping the poor" thing

Okay guys. My friend Eric posted about something on his blog that I think is of great import.

I'll post it here, then give you the link to Thomas's blog below.

Thomas's blog.

So youth group, (all one of you that reads this, not counting the leaders) how's about stepping up to the plate and helping? Of course anyone who's not a member of my youth group can help, too.

Thoughts?

crazy talk

If only.

captivating

My friend Kris (who rarely updates his blog, but has surprisingly given me things to read thricefold over the past couple of days) wrote something interesting that I thought would be cool to post here.

Just a little something to think about:

a collective

Okay, so I've been thinking a lot today about "collectives." Actually, I've only been thinking about them for the past 7 minutes - ever since my friend/former co-worker at the Inwood Theater in Dallas, Lonnie (better known as Lonaldo), mentioned the idea. He's an artist, and he and his friends (also artists) want to start a collective. I suggested that he and his alleged "friends" should have photos taken as if they were in a band. They would pose in a "band" formation with their "instruments" - easels, clay, laptops, keytars, etc. He's on board, and they're going to publicize themselves. But before we get ahead of ourselves here, let's take a stab at defining the term "collective."

If "I," Rebecca Phares, were to "think up" a definition on "my own," it would look a little something like this:

collective (adj.)

1: done by or characteristic of individuals acting together; "a joint identity"; "the collective mind"; "the corporate good" [syn: corporate]

2: forming a whole or aggregate [ant: distributive]

3: set up on the principle of collectivism or ownership and production by the workers involved usually under the supervision of a government; "collective farms" n : members of a cooperative enterprise

But "I" could be wrong.

I'm currently part of a little collective, myself. It has recently been named "The Latchkey Kids," and it is composed of Jessica Roberts (J-Ro/Jaronius Brown), Adam Buck (Hall & Oates connoisseur) and me. Together, or rather...collectively, we will be auditioning for and subsequently competing in the World Series of Pop Culture that is being hosted by VH1. We will win. (We must think positively so we don't crumble under the ceaseless pressure of mainstream society)

Here is a picture of a collective I found:

blonde redhead

Today has been a great day so far. Not too much going on at work. And last night was great. I just love my friends.

Annie, Michael, Rian and Josh (and the kids) made last night great at youth group.

Then J-Ro and Rhealyn made it greater by asking me to be their third team member for the VH1 Pop Culture contest auditions. (Sure Rhealyn can't do it anymore because of a "wedding," but it's the original thought that counts.) Incidentally, we're holding auditions for a third member, so pop it up!

Then Kevin, my friend who's a boy (man) made it even better by engaging in an IHOP breakfast in the nighttime hours ere I went home and almost straight to bed!

Much better end than beginning to yesterday. *good sigh*

If my temperament were a specific kind of pants, today I'd be relaxed fit (with a special elastic waistband apparently).

stirrup some trouble

I've made an official decision to bring back....."the stirrup pant." I'm kind of not kidding. I don't know what inspired me to do so, but I was looking up stirrup pants on Google Images the other day, and here are some pictures that I found, some inspirational, some....not:

the satin stirrup:

NOT to be confused with "Lina Lee's Purple Satin Stirrup Pants":

add to the mix if you will a "Disco Chic" stirrup/blouse combo!:

how could we EVER resist something folded so attractively and with so many color options?! a stirrup for every day of the week!:

and this one I can actually kind of get into....with the right accesories, who knows?:

Come on. Who wouldn't like to go one day........just ONE day without having to worry about your pant legs rising up? Hmm? ......Precisely as I imagined. Not a one of you. Not. A. One.
