cats & dogs

It was a calm and peaceful morning this... morning, not sunny, but not raining for the first time in I can't remember how long as I was driving to work and even up until around 10:00am.

Then it began.

The rain. And the darkness.

Today was one of those "almost brought my camera to work" days, but didn't. Good thing I have this glorious new phone that can capture life in still frames! Though not the 7.3 megapixels I'm used to on my little Sony Cybershot™, nevertheless... pictures it does take.

Here are a few:

this picture does nothing to illustrate the manical way in which the wind was slapping the rain in crazy splashes against the.......windooooooooooow to the waaaaalllll:

please note the water on the floor and remnants of our attempt to "broom out" the water in the corner:

the post-storm calm:

It's been an exciting morning fo sho. During this torrential downpour, our paper rep came in bearing breakfast tacos for the art department peeps and myself. Assessment? I'm full, it's humid and I love an overcast day. Happy Wednesday.

visual stimuli

I haven't really written much of substance lately, and I know my posts have been more intermittent than usual, so I apologize. However, I have no intentions of breaking the pattern just yet....at least in the area of substance. By the by, when I say substance, I mean "word count," and I don't mean to imply that what I'm about to post is not "substantial."

As my day of betrothing dost approach, and invitations are soon to be designed by one Jeffrey Barfoot the creative director at my place of employment, I thought I would post some design "likes" I've found. Some of these I actually gave to Jeff for inspiration, others of these I just like. A lot. I hope you, too, will find these as pleasing to the eye as .....eye did. *runs away*

I found all of these designs at either Orange Beautiful (thanks to Miss Candie) or FunCupcake. Click on them and peruse.

Can anyone guess my favorite colors?

embedded bosque

I figured out how to put the video on here!! It's amazing how many computer questions can be answered simply by employing the "scroll down" method.

bosque white peter

Last Saturday, I played with Bosque Brown at the Cavern and we were fortunate enough to be able to share the stage with Austin's White Denim and a recent favorite of mine, Peter & the Wolf.

Here's a video from the concert. I wanted to try to get it to play on my blog page, but I am less than technologically advanced, so you'll have to settle for this and let it load for a minute. It will be fun though, I promise!

Here's a screen shot of the video and what it would look like if I could post it directly on this page:

mom's day cupcake

I often frequent (is that redundant) a design website I discovered called funcupcake. With May fast approaching, I've been perusing some of my favorite design websites to see if they have any cool mother's day card designs that I might purchase. I thought of funcupcake and I visited her site to check out Mom's day cards. She didn't have any up yet so I left her a comment to see if she had any in the works. She emailed back and was really nice and said she liked the idea. Huzzah!

Today I was browsing my blogs and I came upon hers and look what I found! REPRESENT!!! So cute. And I even got a mention. I'll have to keep checking back to see when she has them for sale!

I love her stuff!

bunny disapproval

My friend J-Ro sent me this website and I laughed OUT LOUD (lol I think the kids are saying) at some of these. Makes me want to have a little house bunny. With floppy ears.

Here are a few of my favorites:

I love bun buns!!! I just heard that when you have rabbits for pets, you can take them for bunny walks. Now it's just a matter of convincing Kevin to love bunnies, too. Just think how fun it would be if they slept on top of Kevin at night!!

I also just read that rabbits are crepuscular. According to Wikipedia, crepuscular is a term used to describe animals that are primarily active during the twilight. Ha ha! Everything about bunnies is cute!

loss

This is kind of a somber post, so I apologize for the lack of joviality. I just found out that one of our long time vendors at work passed away. His name was Mark Denson and he worked at a digital printer in Dallas that we used quite frequently. We hadn't been using them for a while for a couple reasons.

For one, I knew Mark had been out of the office for a couple months because of health reasons, but I wasn't sure of the severity, and then a few months ago he called back to let me know he was back in the office and feeling better, so that was great news.

Two, we haven't really been doing that many digital jobs in the past few months so I hadn't really needed to call over there.

Well today, I sent an email over to get a quote on reprinting a job we'd done last year, and that's when I got a call back from one of his co-workers to let me know the news. When she told me what had happened, all I could do was gasp. Mark was in his forties....MAYBE fifties at the very latest. She told me he'd had bladder cancer and that he actually passed away a couple months ago. She mentioned to me that they had worked together for a really long time and that they had been really close friends and I could hear in her voice that she was having a hard time telling me.

I don't know. It's a strange feeling. I'm very sad, but it's a very surreal feeling maybe in part due to the suddenness and that I just found out a few minutes ago. I keep thinking that we should have used him for more jobs or that I should have called him or I don't know. I mean, he was a vendor for us, so I wouldn't normally call him just to say hi, but now I feel like maybe I should have. I don't know. I feel really....indiscribable I guess.

I'm praying for his family and friends. Sorry this wasn't very uplifting.
